Where it all started . . . this photo is from 2012, our first year of marriage. We met in Trujillo, Peru where Hermes was born and lived all his life and where Alleen moved to be a missionary in 2009. Thanks to the young adults group in our local church, we were able to get to know one another through a large group of friends. After three years of friendship and dating, we married in March 2012. There are certainly many differences (language, culture and more), but our love for Christ was a common denominator that surpassed any other challenges that life threw at us.
Hermes enjoys music and especially Peruvian folk music. He is gifted on the zamponas (pan flutes to us Americans), the cajon (a box drum), guitar and more. God also gifted him with a beautiful voice. Music is how the Lord called Hermes to the church; and he has enjoyed playing in and forming bands that play both Andean folk music and the psalms set to Andean folk music. His hobbies include fútbol, movies, and traveling.
Alleen is a lawyer turned missionary. After practicing law for 14 years, she was called to missions and moved to Trujillo, Peru where she served for 12 years. She graduated in May 2023 from Reformed Theological Seminary with a Masters of Arts in Counseling. She enjoys reading, movies, and traveling.
We are smitten with our dog Qori, a golden retriever. Qori is Quechuan
for oro or dorado (Spanish for gold or golden). Quechuan is a native dialect from the Andean mountains of Peru.
